HiB Hike On! Winner Profile - Kate K.Meet Kate! She hiked with Camille, 2.5 and Penny, 4 months, on July 25th for the Hike it Baby Hike On! event and won a Hike it Baby Onesie just by registering their hike that day!

What hike did you conquer on Saturday, July 25th? What was your favorite part of hiking that trail?
We romped all over Philadelphia, but the best part of the day was roaming around Smith’s Memorial Playground in Fairmount Park!

Did you have any obstacles to overcome to get out or while on your hike that day?
We planned to meet up with the HIB Chester County group, but with two very little ones who need their sleep we did not make it.

Why do you think hiking is a positive influence in our children’s lives?
Some of my favorite childhood memories were hiking with my family. I grew up near Marsh Creek State Park and my mom and I would take hikes there all the time. There were some old stone foundations in the woods that I found fascinating. I also spent lots of time with my childhood friends hiking around the woods, playing in streams, etc. I want my daughter to appreciate nature as much as I did as a child and to have the memories like I have with my Mom. It is too easy these days to get caught up inside with TV, phones, computers, etc.

What is your advice for anyone who is contemplating hiking with their little ones for the first time?
Getting out the door is always the hardest part for me, hiking or not. Take that first step and see where the day takes you! You can always turn back if things aren’t going as planned. Also, bring a friend/partner/grandparent along!

Are you excited about the prize you won? Tell us about what you plan to do with it!
Yes! I plan to have Penny wear it on our next hike!
