Was this your first Challenge? If yes, how did it motivate you to get outdoors? If this was not your first Challenge, how was it different from your previous experience?
We were also part of the March Challenge. This challenge was easier because I knew more trails and scheduled my entire month of hikes in the first week.
What was the biggest obstacle you faced during this Challenge and how did you overcome it?
We had some high temps and even higher mosquito population making it difficult to find friends on the hikes.
Where was your favorite hike this month? Why is it your favorite?
I was excited to end our challenge in Oregon. Our last hike day started at 6am along the Pacific Ocean to see the tide pools near the Haystacks. It ended walking around Portland….where HIB began.
How easy or hard was it to get out and accomplish the miles you achieved? Any advice for families who think they could never do 30 miles in 30 days?
30 miles was easy this month. Mostly because I had it all scheduled. Each time we were out we did at least a mile. It really added up fast.
If you could describe your HiB30 Challenge this June in 3 words what would they be and why?
“Determined flat lander.”
It took determination to hike in the hot, buggy woods. Then I went west and found some serious terrain. I realized my tandem wearing was not quite enough training to make a western intermediate hike, with constant ascent, easy. However…the western hike had no mosquitoes!”
Do you already have big plans for the prize that you won? Tell us how excited you are about your win! Oh my…I was just planning to find some new sunglasses because mine broke. And now I can get some for the whole family! This is so exciting!
