July 2015 Lead a Hike Prizes (4)Was this your first Challenge? If yes, how did it motivate you to get outdoors? If this was not your first Challenge, how was it different from your previous experience?

This was our second challenge, our first was last November. This time around was different in a few ways. For one, I’m pregnant this time, so I hiked at a bit slower pace. Second, I bought an Onya carrier, what a difference that made from my previous carrier (my son is about 40lbs)! Lastly, my son and I have gotten to know several of the other parents/kids in the group, and we even led some hikes on our own!

What was the biggest obstacle you faced during this Challenge and how did you overcome it?

Not knowing how far/long my son would be able or willing to walk on his own. We overcame that by buying an Onya carrier, now I can just pop him on or off my back no problem!

Where was your favorite hike this month? Why is it your favorite?

The University of Michigan’s Nichols Arboretum. The scenery is always changing, with a peony garden, the Huron River, fairy houses, and beautiful woodlands. Plus there are lots of hills, which gives me a challenge.

How easy or hard was it to get out and accomplish the miles you achieved? Any advice for families who think they could never do 30 miles in 30 days?

I found it fairly easy because I love to walk. I did push myself a little harder than normal to make sure I reached the 30 mile mark. It’s definitely an obtainable goal, since you just need to focus on getting at least 1 mile a day.

If you could describe your HiB30 Challenge this June in 3 words what would they be and why?

Fun, energizing and worthwhile. HiB provides 3 things my son and I both need to stay happy: nature, socializing, and exercise.

Do you already have big plans for the prize that you won? Tell us how excited you are about your win!

I’m thrilled! I’ve never really won anything before! I won his and hers hiking/running shoes that look awesome. My husband is a runner so he’s excited, and they look like they will be perfect for me to get back in shape this winter after the new baby is born! Thanks so much HiB!!!

Hike it Baby could not give away these awesome prizes without having amazing sponsors like Icebug! Remember, all you have to do is sign up for the next HiB30 Challenge to be entered to win prizes from our partners!
