Meet Lisa from HiB Tacoma, who hiked in the June HiB30 Challenge with Andric and Auden and won a Real Baby Food book by Jenna Helwig!
Was this your first Challenge? If yes, how did it motivate you to get outdoors? If this was not your first Challenge, how was it different from your previous experience?
Yes. We go outdoors regularly, the Challenge encouraged us to choose a hike more than we might have otherwise.
What was the biggest obstacle you faced during this Challenge and how did you overcome it?
Honestly, it is summertime and the weather is beautiful! Many days we were pulled to the playground, swimming pool, or other gatherings. I think I would choose a different month to participate in the challenge next time.
Also, hiking with a toddler is humbling. I had my own goals but had to remember that this was with and for him, so respecting his words and limits often led how long we hiked. If it were my experience alone, we would have been on longer excursions. We were on hikes 17/30 days, so that was a big win in my mind!
Where was your favorite hike this month? Why is it your favorite?
I love all of our regular spots in Tacoma, WA – Puget Gulch, China Lake, and Point Defiance are definitely our favorite adventure locations!
How easy or hard was it to get out and accomplish the miles you achieved? Any advice for families who think they could never do 30 miles in 30 days?
Every time you are out and about is an opportunity to explore something new, even in a familiar place. We saw slugs and deer and squirrels and ferns and young evergreen trees. I love talking about our amazing world with my kids.
If you could describe your HiB30 Challenge this June in 3 words what would they be and why?
