HiB30 Winner Profile - Ryan BehrMeet Ryan, who hiked for 31+ miles with Dashiell (9 months) in the June HiB30 Challenge with the HiB Austin-Dripping Springs Branch and won a water bottle from Hike it Baby!

Was this your first Challenge? If yes, how did it motivate you to get outdoors? If this was not your first Challenge, how was it different from your previous experience?
Yes! Especially it being our first summer with an infant, living in Texas, it got us out to new hikes as well as a few bucket list item destinations as a family.

What was the biggest obstacle you faced during this Challenge and how did you overcome it?
Making sure the weather wasn’t going to be an issue (we had terrible rains here in Austin, making some trails impassable) as well as an erratic, new sleep schedule with a growing baby.

Where was your favorite hike this month? Why is it your favorite?
Hamilton Pool Preserve – – – it was our last hike as a family to push us past 30 miles.  The scenery was beautiful with waterfalls, a cave like environment, and cooler temperature near the falls.  Additionally, it was a place my husband loved visiting as a young boy, so to experience it for the first time with him and our son was really special.     “It was easy when we got into a routine! The only issue I had was remembering to turn on the activity tracker.

How easy or hard was it to get out and accomplish the miles you achieved? Any advice for families who think they could never do 30 miles in 30 days?
For those who think it can’t be done, I would suggest NOT looking at the big picture. Some days, our time outside was just a very short walk before it got too warm or rainy—it all adds up!

If you could describe your HiB30 Challenge this June in 3 words what would they be and why?
Adventurous, peaceful, encouraging.  Adventurous because a few of the hikes with my husband took us on some pretty uneven terrain and his coaching got me through these experiences.  Peaceful because some of our early morning walks at a community Park were just Dashiell and me and I got to sing and chat with him. Encouraging because I have met other mamas going through stages like we are, and I never fear judgment from HIB families.

Do you already have big plans for the prize that you won? Tell us how excited you are about your win!    We are looking forward to cooling down on future hikes with our HIB water bottle!

To win awesome prizes from our HiB30 Challenge partners be sure to register for the next Challenge and get out on those trails!!
