We just wrapped up another great Hike it Baby 30 Challenge—the last one of 2016! Congratulations to Monica Miller on winning a carrier of her choice, thanks to our Hike it Baby Title Sponsor, Onya. Monica won this great prize by signing up to achieve 30 miles in 30 days OR spend 30 minutes outside 3 times per week with her family.

Hike it Baby hosts the HiB30 Challenge four times per year. Families from all over the globe come together to challenge themselves and encourage each other, forming a supportive and inspiring community. Over the course of November’s challenge, 1,124 families achieved a grand total of 20,422 miles and 904,645 minutes outside. That’s amazing!

This is what Monica had to say about November’s HiB30 Challenge:

You won a carrier of your choice from our Title Partner at Onya. How are you going to use it?

I love Onya Baby and their carriers. It was our first carrier and we still use it all the time with our nearly 1-year old son. Because I love Onya Baby so much, I have convinced my sister to get one and together we gave my mom one for her birthday. She loves to wear her grandkids! Since no one in my family needs an Onya, I will be giving this prize to someone in the Kingston, ON HiB branch–perhaps a little friendly competition, a thanks to our hike hosts!

What was your reason for joining the HiB30 Challenge this November?

This is my 3rd challenge and I absolutely loved the first two. As it gets darker in the evenings I often need a little extra motivation to get outdoors and HiB30 offers that. I’m going to really need the January challenge as I’ll be back to work full-time then. I look forward to it!

Did you have any challenges to overcome? If so, how did you overcome them?

It’s definitely been difficult with the shorter days, and also with taking too much on. I say yes all of the time and then end up with an enormous to-do list that keeps me inside. I tend to have to turn all technology off and run away into the woods otherwise we’re all cranky and tired and too indoorsy.

What is your number one piece of advice you would give to other families unsure about getting outside for 30 minutes 3 times per week OR achieving 30 miles in 30 days?

Put something on the calendar. It could be the Hike it Baby calendar or your own personal calendar. But put it in writing and commit to it. Even if it’s backyard play or a walk around the block, make time for it and it will happen!

Thank you to all who joined us for the HiB30 Challenge this November! Join us next time and be entered to win some great prizes, like this one from our Title Sponsor, Onya. The next HiB30 Challenge begins on January 1st, so mark your calendars!
