Congratulations to Heather Henderson for winning a kid carrier, thanks to our Hike it Baby Title Sponsor, Deuter. Heather won this great prize by signing up to achieve 30 miles in 30 days or spend 30 minutes outside 3 times per week with her family.

Hike it Baby hosts the HiB30 Challenge four times per year. Families from all over the globe come together to challenge themselves and encourage each other, forming a supportive and inspiring community. Over the course of November’s challenge, 724 families achieved a grand total of 14,082 miles and 647,893 minutes outside. That’s amazing!

HiB30 Winner Deuter for Hike it Baby

This is what Heather had to say about November’s HiB30 Challenge:

YOU WON A KID CARRIER FROM OUR TITLE PARTNER AT DEUTER. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO USE IT?

Hiking and possibly light backpacking with my 10-month-old son!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY FROM THE HIB30 CHALLENGE THIS NOVEMBER?

When my step-kids got excited about going hiking! They knew about the challenge and asked about it a lot. I believe everyone, including my husband, enjoyed this challenge!

DID YOU HAVE ANY CHALLENGES TO OVERCOME? IF SO, HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?

I wanted to feel prepared for anything and was slightly anxious about hiking by myself with my son. The more I read the Hike it Baby and REI articles, and the more I planned and prepared, the more confident I became. I packed my 10 essentials, learned about colder-weather clothing, and had great conversations with other Hike it Baby moms about tips and solutions.

WHAT IS YOUR NUMBER ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE TO OTHER FAMILIES UNSURE ABOUT GETTING OUTSIDE FOR 30 MINUTES 3 TIMES PER WEEK OR ACHIEVING 30 MILES IN 30 DAYS?

Plan ahead a week at a time. Host hikes so it keeps you accountable. Get ahead on the miles, so that if something comes up, you won’t get stressed about missing a hike. I wanted to accomplish the miles in November and with the Thanksgiving holiday and traveling, I planned on at least 8 miles a week. That way, I was ahead for the holiday. Turns out, I only needed 2 more miles to finish on the 4th week. I was able to enjoy Black Friday on a leisurely hike with all my family … and another family joined us!
