We just wrapped up another great Hike it Baby 30 Challenge – the final one of 2018!  We’d like to thank our Hike it Baby Silver Sponsors and Prize Donors for the great prizes they provided for November’s Hike it Baby 30 Challenge (HiB30). The winning participants were entered into the prize drawings simply by signing up to achieve 30 miles in 30 days OR spend 30 minutes outside 3 times per week with their families.

Hike it Baby hosts the HiB30 Challenge four times per year. Families from all over the globe come together to challenge themselves and encourage each other, forming a supportive and inspiring community. Over the course of November’s Challenge, 455 families achieved a grand total of 6,468 miles and 343,000 minutes outside. That’s amazing!

This is what our winners had to say about November’s HiB30 Challenge:

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY FROM THE HIB30 CHALLENGE THIS NOVEMBER?

Marianne Altheide: Sadly this was one of our more pitiful HiB30 challenges. Between nasty weather, illness and a training that took up two weekends, it was hard to get outside every day. I guess my favorite part is always when we get out and do yard work. Nothing brings a family together more than raking leaves.

Ryan Idryo: This challenge had my first hikes with my second child who was six weeks old at the start of the challenge, so those are definitely memorable. We spent the first weekend at Yosemite, and on the last day had my first solo trail hike with him.

Baby K’Tan Winner: Hiking with other ladies and babies on a more strenuous hike that reminded me of who I was and how I spent my time before baby.

Shillika Chandrasekhar: First challenge with my toddler and newborn!

Kristy Fast: Taking my new baby daughter on her two first hikes. One with the local chapter and one with my family (husband and son). Also completing the local Santa Scamper with both my kids, a family tradition.

DID YOU HAVE ANY CHALLENGES TO OVERCOME? IF SO, HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?

Marianne Altheide: As I stated above, we had lots of challenges. I think the best was when family came for Thanksgiving and took Seamus (my 3-year-old) out for a walk after dinner. My sister and Seamus made up a game to see how many houses they saw with holiday light decorations on Thanksgiving while walking around the block (17). Then they went out again on Saturday to see if the number increased (33)!

Ryan Idryo: The smoke was a big problem in California. We didn’t have time to drive three hours to get out of it, so we spent a couple weeks without any hikes. The real challenge came at the end to get over my disappointment and get back out there even though I knew I wouldn’t be able to hit the target.

Baby K’Tan Winner: Rain gear for baby, I didn’t overcome this challenge, as I didn’t hike in rainy days. 🙁

Shillika Chandrasekhar: I have an infant who hasn’t been the biggest fan of the cold weather, so I bought a babywearing fleece jacket and it was summer for her in there. 🙂

Kristy Fast: We had a very cold November in Wisconsin and with my new baby daughter, we had to bundle up and enjoy the fresh air.

WHAT IS YOUR NUMBER ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE TO OTHER FAMILIES UNSURE ABOUT GETTING OUTSIDE FOR 30 MINUTES 3 TIMES PER WEEK OR ACHIEVING 30 MILES IN 30 DAYS?

Marianne Altheide: Don’t get overwhelmed by the challenge, a little bit each day can add up. Celebrate small victories, like getting safely into a store with a little one when you park at the far end of a parking lot.

Ryan Idryo: Even if you’re not able to meet the challenge, any time outside is worth the effort. For me, it was good practice in getting the little one out and learning what he does and does not like.

Baby K’Tan Winner: set up plans with others to keep motivation

Shillika Chandrasekhar: Your children might not know how to say it, but they will be so thankful for that bonding space and time outside with you!

Kristy Fast:  To role model healthy behaviors to your kids and family is the greatest gift you can give them.

Thank you to all who joined us for the HiB30 Challenge this November! Join us next time and be entered to win some great prizes, like the ones from our Prize Donors:  Hevea Planet, Baby K’Tan, BogsTerramarBoodywear, Talouk Outdoor and Garneau.
