Tell us about your favorite hike in the world
When I was 10 we took an amazing family vacation to several national parks from Utah to Louisiana. I have such fond memories hiking The Narrows at Zion National Park. I’m looking forward to returning and hiking it with my son.
Favorite Hike it Baby moment so far?
While on a walk on Town Lake with my son asleep in a carrier on me he woke up about 30 minutes before the end of the hike and was just so happy. He started giggling and babbling and singing and continued for the rest of the hike. It was a fantastic way to end our hike that day.
Tell us what you like about Hike it Baby
The community it builds. I know now if I’m ever outside of Austin, I can go on a Hike It Baby hike in another city and meet amazing families and feel right at home.
What is the best advice for a new hiking family?
Enjoy your time outside. You can set out to hike 5 miles (if thats your thing) and if you do it Way to go! But if not, for whatever reason (left the diaper bag at home, baby is cranky, terrain is too tough, forgot your water bottle, whatever) enjoy the time you spent outside together as a family or community(I tend to think of them as one in the same).
What kind of terrain do you like best?
I guess my current preference are the granite trails but I also really enjoy a little challenge with the tougher, natural, rocky terrain.
Why is it important to you to have your kiddo out in nature?
Being out in nature is natural. I believe we all have a deep connection with the outside world. There’s something special and spiritual about being in nature and marveling at the beauty you are a part of. Being in nature awakens all of your senses. Being able to share that with my son is incredible.
What kind of gear do you always suggest people get?
Baby carrier. I have a great stroller and do use it but it gets used far less than my carrier. Plus there are many trails that are not stroller friendly and there’s no reason to miss out on a great trail just because you can’t push a stroller on it.
How stoked are you about your win!? How will you use it?
It will be my new go to gear for my hikes. I feel startacular!
