Frequently Asked Questions

HIKING WITH HIKE IT BABY

WHY IS THERE A REGISTRATION FOR HIKE IT BABY?

Having a registration allows us to protect our community by blocking the calendar from people who aren’t part of our community. Also as a registered participant of Hike it Baby we can improve the website based on your use of it.

CAN I HIKE BEFORE MY CHILD(REN) ARRIVE(S)?

We welcome you to join Hike it Baby prior to the arrival of your child(ren) to get to know the community. If you are currently pregnant, speak with your care provider before joining us for the first time.

WHAT IF THERE ISN’T A HIKE IT BABY BRANCH IN MY COMMUNITY?

You are welcome to become a Hike Host and add events to the calendar. If you are interested in becoming a Branch Ambassador, you can learn more about that here. Another great way to get involved is to join our Hike it Baby 30 Challenges and meet people from all over the world who come together in the Challenge Facebook group.

IS HIKE IT BABY ONLY FOR MOMS AND NEWBORNS?

Hike it Baby is an all-inclusive community and everyone is welcome to join our events, from the newest baby to the eldest of the family. We welcome nannies, grannies, parents, and caregivers of all ages.

I HAVE MULTIPLE CHILDREN. CAN I BRING ALL OF THEM?

Yes you can! Read the event descriptions to see which events would best fit your family, because some are faster paced than others.

HOW OLD SHOULD MY BABY BE BEFORE I BRING HIM/HER ON A HIKE?

This is best answered by you and your health care provider. We do not have an age limit on our hikes (young or old). Join us when you feel comfortable doing so.

I’VE NEVER HIKED BEFORE OR I AM AN EXPERIENCED HIKER. WILL I BE WELCOME?

Yes! We offer a wide variety of hikes to appeal to as many families as we are able to. If you are not seeing a hike that interests you, see our Hike Host page for information on how to host an event that you and your family would enjoy.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO ATTEND A HIKE? DO I NEED TO RSVP?

Read through the event description to see if there is any suggested gear to bring or if the Hike Host would like you to RSVP by emailing him/her. Other than that, show up at the designated time and meeting location.

HOSTING A HIKE

WHO CAN HOST HIKES?

You can host hikes! All members of the Hike it Baby community are welcome to submit hikes to our calendar. Before hosting for the first time, visit our Hike Host page to learn more about submitting your event to the calendar, and have fun.

WHAT DOES “EVENT” MEAN?

Event to us means hiking a trail or walking on city streets, strolling the neighborhood with strollers, or a more difficult trek on a carrier-only hike. We are here to get outside with you and your little one(s).  We come together at parks and on bikes, we explore our communities, and help foster a sense of stewardship in this new generation.

WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG FOR MY EVENT OR EDITS TO SHOW ON THE CALENDAR?

Hike it Baby calendar submissions and edits are handled by a team of volunteers, and it can take 12-24 hours to approve the event. Contact calendar@hikeitbaby.com if it has been more than 24 hours since you submitted your event, and it is not on the calendar.

WHY IS THE HIKE MAXIMUM 5 MILES?

Hike it Baby is a group whose focus is on families with young children. Ideally, we cap our events at 5 miles out of respect for the littlest member but allow up to 7 miles.

MY HIKE IS IN A LOCATION THAT DOESN’T HAVE CELL COVERAGE. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Be sure to include this information in your event description as well as any parking or driving directions that are specific to the area. If there are any weather specifics that will affect your event, include that as well. For example: Event will cancel if raining two hours before or if a particular temperature by a certain time.

HOW CAN I MAKE CHANGES TO MY EVENT?

To request a change to an event that is already posted on the calendar, email the following information to calendar@hikeitbaby.com

  1. A direct link to your event on the Hike it Baby Calendar
  2. The information you need to have changed

WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEED TO CANCEL MY EVENT?

If you need to cancel, email calendar@hikeitbaby.com with the link to your event and the information; either that you found a replacement host and their contact info, or the request to cancel the event. If you posted in any other social media, be sure to also edit those posts so the community is notified.

DO I NEED TO SUBMIT ALL EVENTS, EVEN LAST-MINUTE HIKES OR CASUAL GET TOGETHERS TO THE CALENDAR?

YES! Thank you for submitting all Hike it Baby activities to the calendar. Hike it Baby events added to the calendar are covered under our liability insurance.

CAN I HOST A HIKE ANYWHERE?

Certainly! Host an event anywhere you would like, from your hometown to a vacation spot. Events can include anything from a dirt path, paved trail at a park, zoo, museums, festivals, farmers markets, in the mall, and more! If you are hosting an event some place you have never been before, be sure to state that in your description you submit to the calendar so people can come prepared or do research of their own.

THERE ISN’T A HIKE IT BABY COMMUNITY IN MY AREA. HOW DO I START ONE?

If you are interested in becoming a Hike it Baby Ambassador, you can learn more about that here.

MY CITY ALREADY HAS A GROUP. CAN I JOIN?

Hike it Baby welcomes active members who would like to take the step past hosting and become an Ambassador. Read through our Start a Branch/Become an Ambassador page for information about what this entails.
